The Implantology Screening Test (IST) is a test to screen a patient before placing dental implants.
Peri-implant infections in patients with a natural dentition can be caused by known periodontal pathogens. Residual deepened pockets around natural teeth can be a niche for these pathogens and from these sites they may colonise the peri-implant area.
In patients with a history of periodontitis, placement of dental implants may require microbial testing to check for remaining periodontal pathogens such as A. actinomycetemcomitans, P. gingivalis and B. forsythus. Besides the pathogens, also other risk factors as smoking and oral hygiene are evaluated. The screening test will give a complete advice for treatment and to reduce the risk on peri-implantitis in the future. For this test, bacteria do not need to be viable since specific pieces of DNA of target bacteria is multiplied. Therefore, time or transport is not an issue.
The plaque sample is analysed at our certified, bacteriological laboratory and assessed by a team of experts, such as microbiologists and periodontists. You will receive scientifically sound advice on supporting the treatment with an antibiotic, if necessary.
LabOral is concerned with clinical oral microbiology. In case of clinical periodontal microbiology and caries diagnostics, interpretation of the results and a therapy advice is provided. An advice based on the microbiological findings and on the clinical data provided by the dental professional, based on scientific research and on years long clinical experience of a team of microbiologists and clinicians. Collaboration with other microbiological laboratories in and outside Europe exists.
